Our clients, from Holland, Germany and Italy are new to video production but are proving to be a pleasure to work with – they are trusting and patient – and that alone makes the process a pleasure.

The Brompton folding bike is a gift from my father – an amazingly innovative design, and like CreationVideo, Brompton Bicycles are a Chiswick-based business.

The weather is gorgeous, a perfect spring day in London, and I must say I feel very fortunate to be doing a job that I love today – a perfect birthday!

We just completed a single camera and autocue shoot at the Department of Health in Whitehall; Sir Bruce Keogh is Medical Director of the National Health Service in England and was filming several pieces for a conference in Australia on VTE (venous thromboembolism). He was joined by Dr Mike Durkin, Medical Director of NHS South of England.

I was filming solo at the school’s two locations in Chiswick and Holland Park, using a new Canon EOS 600D on a slider to get some great tracking shots of redecorated classrooms and public areas.

CreationVideo’s first clients, back in 1993, were English language schools all over the UK; back then we were using huge broadcast Beta SP or DVCAM cameras – I really appreciate the benefits of a small, light, portable camera.

It isn’t just any hard drive though – it’s the future: a Promise Pegasus 8TB Thunderbolt RAID system. It delivers “a blistering 2 channels of 10 GB/second per port” of performance”. That’s fast, just what we need for HD video editing with lots of effects and colour grading.

Now I just need to wait for our new 27″ 32gb i7 3.4ghz 512gb SSD 2tb HD iMac to arrive.

That’s right – our new Mac is an iMac; after years of Mac Pros, the iMac is finally up to the task of pro video editing. Now I must stop staring at the Pegasus.

The shoot is a drama based on a before and after concept by writer Paul Brady; we’re shooting with our 2x EX1s and KinoFlo kit, in Stockley Park, near Heathrow.

It’s always good fun working with Threshold, as they have great scripts, excellent actors and a very convivial working atmosphere.

We kicked off February with a live webcast from a venue in Hatton Garden, London EC1, for a joint US / UK client. The two organisations, ICH International and GHK Consulting, are both global, and needed the webcast to be live in the UK, US, India, Philippines and Beijing, amongst others.

The meeting included a Powerpoint presentation of 38 slides – our system allows us to show the slides alongside the video stream, changed in real time by our operator – see screengrab below. There’s info and prices (which apparently are very reasonable!) here.

Our last job of 2011, just before Christmas, was a video and photo shoot for the new edition of Maitland’s Vertebral Manipulation, the classic text for manipulative physiotherapists. Demonstrated by Jukka Kangas, who flew in from Finland for the shoot, manipulative physiotherapy is based on procedures for thorough assessment and reassessment of patients.

The book will be published by our client, Elsevier, and Jukka had this to say when he saw the edited videos:

“Thanks Mark, I had a chance to look at all the video clips last night. I think they are brilliant! There are a few mobilisation techniques and exercises that are documented/described for the very first time and the result is successful!”
